Contemplative Prayer

The Contemplative Prayer Group

The Contemplative Prayer Group is a group of Anglicans and Methodists from the City Centre Parish and St Peter's Methodist Church who meet once a month for a time of quiet meditation. At each meeting a different leader provides a structure for our thoughts through readings and prayers, in between which there are extended periods of silence.

We use visual aids such as candles and occasionally recorded music. We are fortunate that we can meet in buildings in which generations of people have worshipped before us, places where the constant offering of prayer has created a devotional atmosphere.

During the winter months we meet in the old chapel in the undercroft of the Eastbridge Hospital.  In the Summer we use the thirteenth-century Greyfriars Chapel, an oasis of peace in the heart of the city. Anyone who would like to meditate quietly on God, with others, will be most welcome at our regular meetings which take place on the first Wednesday evening of each month from 7.45 to 8.30 p.m.

For further details about the Group, please contact Monica Walling through the Church Office on the Contact Us page.

Our meetings are open to all who are interested in honest and lively discussions on contemporary themes in theology and religion. Whatever your interests or viewpoint, you will be most welcome to join us. And please tell others about the Group.
